Zebra Mildliners: Review & Dupes

Zebra Mildliners được lan truyền rộng dãi trong cộng đồng bullet journal trong suốt thời gian vừa qua như là một sản phẩm được ưa thích.
Vì vậy nếu bạn chưa sở hữu chúng thì bạn có thể bạn đã tự hỏi liệu mình có bỏ lỡ một sản phẩm tuyệt vời hay không (ít nhất đó là những gì tôi hay tự hỏi mỗi lần tôi thấy một sản phẩm Stationery mới thú vị, và chắc chắn câu trả lời luôn là có).
 

Nếu bạn đang muốn tìm hiểu và phân vân liệu có nên sở hữu chúng thì bạn đã đến đúng nơi rồi đấy, tôi sẽ giúp bạn giải đáp thắc mắc về sản phẩm này.

THE FEATURES

Zebra Mildliners là một trong những cây bút đẹp nhất trong bộ sưu tập của tôi. Thiết kế rất bắt mắt và dễ thương, sự kết hợp hài hòa giữa thân bút màu trắng và nắp bút tone màu pastel.

Bút có 2 đầu viết, một đầu Bold giống như những cây bút Highlighter khác, một đầu Fine có nét nhỏ hơn.

Đầu Bold khoảng 3mm và đầu Fine là 1mm

Mực của bút là waterbased và tất cả các Mildliners là "juicy" đủ để có được một mịn, nhất quán màu sắc.

Thêm nữa sau khi chụp ảnh cho bài review này, tôi đã quên mất không đóng nắp bút lại. Mãi đến ngày hôm sau tôi mới nhớ ra và khi kiểm tra lại thì thật ngạc nhiên, chiếc Mildliner này không hề bị khô đi chút nào. Đây là điều không dễ thấy ở các loại bút Highlighter khác.

THE COLORS

Những chiếc Mildliners này có 4 bộ mỗi bộ gồm 5 màu:

• Fluorescent  Colors

‘Fluorescent Pack’ cái tên nói lên tất cả, đây là bộ màu duy nhất có màu sắc giống như màu Highliter cơ bản. Màu cam, màu vàng và màu hồng khá sáng, trong khi màu xanh lam và xanh lá cây là tone màu pastel (tone màu mà tôi yêu thích).

• Warm Color Pack

Những màu sắc trong bộ này làm tôi liên tưởng đến khung cảnh mùa thu ấm cúng. Nhìn ngoài chúng có vẻ sáng và mềm mại hơn trong hình. Màu ‘smoke blue’ là màu yêu thích nhất của tôi trong bộ Mildliners này.

• Cool Color Pack

Bộ Cool Color này rất mềm mại và nhẹ nhàng, ngay khi nhìn thấy tôi đã có rất nhiều ý tưởng sử dụng hay ho rồi.

• ‘New colors’ Pack

Tôi không tìm thấy tên đúng cho bộ màu này, nên tôi sẽ tạm gói nó là ‘New colors’. Đây là bộ có màu sắc tươi sáng hơn trong tất cả 4 bộ nói trên.

THE PEN TEST

Tôi nhận thấy rằng những chiếc Mildliners này nhìn hơi khách một chút tùy thuộc vào loại giấy mà chúng ta sẽ sử dụng, điều này cũng đa phần sảy ra với hầu hết các họa cụ khác.

Tôi đã thử so sánh màu thực của chúng khi viết lên 2 loại sổ khác nhau, sổ NUUNA (bên trái) và một cuốn Leuchtturm1917 (bên phải). Vì giấy của NUUNA trắng hơn, dày hơn và mượt mà hơn, màu sắc có vẻ sống động hơn, trong khi trên Leuchtturm chúng mềm hơn. Đây không phải là một điều tốt hay xấu, chỉ là vấn đề sở thích cá nhân.

So sánh sự khác biệt giữa độ dày giấy chúng ta có thể thấy sổ NUUNA có độ dày hơn khi không in hình trang sau, trong khi sổ Leuchtturm thì lại thấy hình trang sau khá rõ.

Tuy nhiên tôi muốn cho các bạn thấy ở mặt sau trang giấy, thì những cây Mildliners này không hệ bị thấm cho dù độ dày giữ 2 loại sổ là khách nhau.

SMUDGE TEST

Tôi luôn tò mò khi viết đè những chiếc bút này lên thì có làm loang màu mực đã viết phí dưới hay không, vì tôi biết rằng rất nhiều người trong chúng ta sử dụng phương pháp này để vẽ các tiêu đề nhanh trong cuốn Bullet Journals của chúng ta.

Và đây là các mà tôi sẽ test: Tôi viết tên của chiếc Liner đang sử dụng, chờ số giây được chỉ ra bên dưới (3s-15s) và sau đó tôi dùng chiếc Mildliners tô đè lên để xem chúng có bị nhòe hay không.

There wasn’t a noticeable difference between the NUUNA (left) and Leuchtturm (right) in this regard: The Mildliner smudged the pens if they weren’t dry (which, again, is the case for almost all markers). The good news is that there were no smudges after the liners were completely dry.

I also tested how long these take to dry after they are swatched, and this again depended on the paper. On the NUUNA, they dried instantly so there was no smudging after running my finger on top of it. On the Leuchtturm, it takes about 3-4 seconds for them to dry completely.

DUPES?

Dupes! Yes! Who doesn’t love dupes?! Especially if they’re a fraction of the price!

Even though they’re not 100% dupes (neither look-wise nor color-wise), once on paper, you probably couldn’t tell much of a difference.

The dupes I’m talking about are the Crayola SuperTips markers that I got in a pack of 50 for less than $10. Not kidding.

Even though I tried to find the most similar colors, you can obviously tell that the Crayola SuperTips are more bright and vibrant than the Zebra Mildliners. Some of the colors are spot on, though.

Honestly, I think the muted colors are the reason why so many people like the Mildliners, but again, it’s a matter of personal preference.

The Crayola SuperTips aren’t dual-ended, but their tip allows you to create both thick and thin lines, very similar in thickness to the Mildliners.

Oh, and the SuperTips also allow you to create calligraphy because the tip is flexible enough to allow thick downstrokes and light upstrokes. 

But more on that in another post.

USES

Unlike the Crayola SuperTips, you cannot use the Mildliners for calligraphy. However, the other ways in which you can use them are only limited by your imagination.

So to get your creative juices flowing, here are some of the ways that I’ve incorporated these beautiful colors in your Bullet Journal:

All my spreads for the month of March were colored with the ‘Smoke Blue’ Mildliner, and I LOVED it. I used the Bold tip to create a border at the top and decorated it, and I used the fine tip for details and for filling in my tracker.

Since the colors are so different from each other, these would also be awesome for using in your color-coding system, which I’ll start doing next month.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I think we can all agree the Mildliners are sweet eye-candy stationery, but whether or not they are worth it, I’ll leave it up for you to decide.

If you already own the Crayola SuperTips, then I don’t think you’re missing out on much by not getting these.

Also, if you’re not into fluorescent highlighter colors then I would obviously skip on the ‘Fluorescent pack’ (even though I really love the blue & green colors from that one).
